My name is Amy Medeiros, and I am an editor with a decade of experience working on trade books. I currently work as a production editor for Simon & Schuster, and I occasionally accept freelance production editing, copyediting, and proofreading projects. I’ll read just about anything, but I have a particular penchant for nonfiction books about social change, feminism and gender, any and all theory, cooking, and the body. My highest professional fulfillment comes from helping authors translate complex and sophisticated ideas at the line level for general readers. My editing style is flexible and author focused.

Some of the most notable titles I’ve worked on include I’ll Tell You When I’m Home by Hala Alyan, which was a finalist for the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir or Autobiography; Say Hello to My Little Friend by Jennine Capó Crucet, which won the 2024 Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Fiction; I Am From Here by Vishwesh Bhatt, which won a 2023 James Beard Foundation Book Award; Franchise by Marcia Chatelain, which won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for History; The Overstory by Richard Powers, which won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction; The Yellow House by Sarah M. Broom, which won the 2019 National Book Award for Nonfiction; and Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments by Saidiya Hartman, which was named one of the Best Books of the 21st Century by the New York Times Book Review.

Other personal favorite projects include Backtalker by Kimberlé Crenshaw, Hard Feelings by Daniel Smith, The Crazies by Amy Gamerman, and Race to the Bottom of Crazy by Richard Grant. I’ve also served as an editor for books of poetry by Stephen Dunn, Joy Harjo, and Kim Addonizio, as well as for collections and reissues of work by Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, and Jean Rhys.

For a more technical overview of my experience, I encourage you to view my résumé. As a book-loving person, I’m always looking for someone to discuss the latest, greatest reads with. I’m happy to talk business, books, or both—feel free to send me an email or add me on Goodreads.
